Today I am going to show you how to overclock your monitor to get free, extra performance from it that will make using it daily a much smoother experience. Keep in mind that not all monitors can be overclocked, but some of the Korean monitors specifically those with only a Dual Link DVI port can be successfully overclocked to 96hz and beyond with little effort. Other monitors are more of a hit or miss kind of thing but can usually overclock a small amount and sometimes even more.
Korean Overclocking Monitors
Here is a list of Korean monitors that are known to overclock to ~ 96hz and even 120hz+
YAMAKASI CATLEAP 2B / 27” 1440p
This is where the monitor overclocking niche started. Has the special 2B overclocking board installed. Sometimes available on Amazon and EBAY.
Sadly, Overlord went out of business due to the president becoming ill in 2015. Overlord built it’s own custom PCB to allow a very stable, quality overclock and guaranteed at least 96hz out of this monitor. These are very hard to find but pop up on EBAY from time to time. This is the monitor that I personally own and it does 120hz without problems.
QNIX QX2710 Evolution 2 / 27” 1440p
Widely available on EBAY as of 2015 and at a decent price. Has many different versions and none are guaranteed to overclock but the Dual Link DVI only version is known to OC to ~96hz.
X-Star DP2710 / 27” 1440p
Widely available on EBAY and Amazon as of 2015. Just like the QNIX QX2710 it also has different versions and none are guaranteed to overclock but the single input model (Dual Link DVI) should get you to ~96hz. This monitor sells very well and has very good reviews.
CROSSOVER 2795 / 27” 1440p
Widely available on EBAY as of 2015 the CROSSOVER 2795 is advertised as a 100hz capable monitor but the sellers do not guarantee any specific overclock.
Any other Korean monitor with only one input (Dual Link DVI) should be able to overclock but is NOT guaranteed!
Don’t want to mess with overclocking?
If all of this seems like a lot of work and you would rather just spend the money on a sure thing you really cant go wrong with the following monitors.lucky patcher for iphone
Stuff you will need
If you plan to do any monitor overclocking with any of these Korean monitors you will need a Dual Link DVI cable and a video card with a Dual Link DVI port. Integrated graphics and older hardware will not work.
Most modern video cards have at least one of these ports.
Cable’s are important too
Most of these Korean monitors come with the correct cable but it is a low quality cable. In order to reach the highest overclock possible you should invest in a high quality cable.bigo live login
I would recommend the Monoprice 6ft 24AWG CL2 Dual Link DVI-D Cable. It’s worth every penny and it gives you peace of mind in knowing that your DVI cable is not holding your overclocking back.
You can read my review on this awesome cable here Best Dual Link DVI Cable On The Market?
Only have an HDMI port available?
If your monitor only has HDMI then I would suggest a high quality HDMI cable if you plan on doing any monitor overclocking and want to maximize your overclock.
There are only a couple of quality HDMI cables that I would recommend:
Cheap and high quality what more could you want? I would get the shortest length possible to avoid signal degradation.
Next up we will go over the different software utilities that can be used when monitor overclocking.
